We’re pretty proud of Junior Management’s conservation efforts. Our local awa, the Ohinemuri River, is being overrun with Koi Carp. These introduced bottom feeders feed like vacuum cleaners, stirring up sediment, and destroying established habitats as they go. Koi don’t take bait like usual fish, and the most effective way of catching them is with a bow and arrow. So being keen fisherboy, he asked for a decent compound bow for Christmas. It has taken some time mastering the archery side of things, and then some more to learn to adjust to the refraction in the water, and the wily ways of koi. But all things come with enough practise. This whopper koi was recently caught, and hopefully more are to come!!
